FAQ: How much weight can StageTop hold?

In addition to using Kickstarter Updates as a place to provide Project/Campaign Updates and to take a Closer Look at key components, we also want to use this forum to provide a detailed answer to key questions. To kick off this series, we will address the potentially misleading topic of strength with the FAQ...

How much weight can StageTop hold?

Let's start with a series of pictures of a StageTop Standard table flexing its strength...

Impressive right? The real answer is "maybe"...  You see a raised platform will have strong and weak points. Placing a weight on a strong point, technically allows the claim of "can hold up to XXlbs", but what happens when that weight is placed on a weak point? Does the table hold or come crashing down, along with your favorite game?

To answer that question for StageTop, let's take a peek under the PlayTiles...

Now with the strong points (green) and weak points (red) identified...

A heavy weight placed in the green area may look impressive, but it is directly above a leg and therefore should be able to hold a significant amount of weight. The real test of strength is how much weight can it hold at its weak points (the red area)? The good news is that the StageTop frame and frame locks do a fine job of supporting a decent amount of weight placed directly on a weak point...

However, we wanted to make it stronger and in order to do so, we had to cheat. By using PlayTiles that snap onto the frames and overlap seams, we were able to double the strength of StageTop's weakest points..

.

Now that you have had a detailed look, let's return to the original question...
